Police from Mundelein and firefighters and paramedics from Mundelein Fire Department and Countryside Fire Protection District responded about 6:04 p.m. Thursday, September 8, 2022 to a report of a crash with injuries involving a car that crashed against a house in the block of 500 Quigley Street in Mundelein. Callers reported a fire at the scene after the crash.

Mundelein police were first on the scene, and fire appeared to be coming from under the vehicle. Police, firefighters, and paramedics discovered that the driver of a black Ford Crown Victoria sedan crashed against the front wall and front porch of a home on Quigley Street near Pershing Avenue.

All residents were reported out of the house after the crash, or were not home at the time of the crash.

Countryside Fire Protection District Ambulance 411’s crew was the first fire unit reporting ‘on scene’ and provided a “size-up” or summary of the scene they saw upon arrival. Countryside Ambulance 411’s crew upon their arrival on scene reported that a car crashed into a building (the home), and that a police officer was pulling out an unconscious victim from the vehicle. The vehicle was smoking, and firefighters effectively cut the hood latch area of the hood, and opened up the hood to completely extinguish a fire in or near the engine compartment. Firefighters also checked for extension of fire or heat damage into the house. No soot or charring was visible on the house in a view from the street, and after firefighters inspected the house with a Thermal Imaging Camera, fire command reported the fire appeared to be confined to the car. A second engine was assigned to the scene at 6:10 p.m., but the incident was not upgraded to a working fire response.

One victim was transported to Level 1 Trauma Center Advocate Condell Medical Center in Libertyville. Firefighters did a thorough search of the home to make sure no victims were injured in the home.

The Building Department for the Village of Mundelein was requested to respond to the scene to investigate the structural integrity of the home. From the perspective of the street, no cracks were visible in the brick or mortar, but the lower part of the brick wall to the height of the vehicle was not initially visible from the street.
