A Lake Zurich police officer began new terms of employment known as a “last chance employment agreement” after he was sentenced for DUI. The sentence included a $2,295 fine, a once year driver’s license suspension, participation in a victim-impact panel, and mandatory attendance at a DUI school. The terms of TeRonde’s new employment agreement became effective January 11 2013, the same day his 30-day unpaid suspension began, and ends September 2015.

McHenry Deputy Police Chief John Birk confirmed that Lake Zurich police officer Vincent TeRonde, 47, was arrested at 10:23 p.m. September 21, 2012 in the 3600 block of West Elm Street in McHenry and charged with driving under the influence of alcohol. TeRonde also was cited for operating an uninsured motor vehicle and illegal lane usage. He also pleaded guilty to reckless driving.

TeRonde was also accused of possessing his loaded service weapon, which violates Lake Zurich Police Department policy.

Lake Zurich Police Department conducted an internal investigation and found that he and a colleague drank beer and ate food after work on Friday September 21, 2012 at Arlington Park Racetrack, and also visited restaurants in Buffalo Grove and Long Grove. The colleague claimed that TeRonde appeared sober when he dropped him off at Lake Zurich Police Department Headquarters.

TeRonde, a 23-year department veteran, has been a quality officer and has contributed to the Marines Toys for Tots program, according to Lake Zurich Deputy Chief Kevin Finlon.
