VIDEO: FLIGHT FOR LIFE airlift after extrication and technical rescue of a man who was injured when his arm became trapped between rollers that press cardboard at a manufacturing plant in Wheeling.
Wheeling police and firefighter/paramedics responded about 8:12 PM Thursday to a report of a man trapped in a machine at Crescent Carboard Company, 100 Willow Rd Wheeling, IL. Firefighter/paramedics arrived to find a man with his arm trapped in a machine at a manufacturing plant. A technical rescue operation and extrication rescue operation was begun immediately with Prospect Heights firefighter/paramedics also at work at the scene. The victim’s arm was injured when it became entrapped between rollers that press cardboard.
Flight for Life from McHenry, Illinois was called to respond so that the male victim could be immediately airlifted to the hospital when he was freed from the machine. A landing zone was set up at the Allstate Insurance facility across the street, just to the south of Crescent Cardboard, at 1600 South Wolf Road. The medical transport helicopter landed about 9:08 p.m. in the north parking lot at Allstate. In about nine minutes the injured man was packaged for transport and loaded onto the Flight for Life helicopter. Just over five minutes later the helicopter was on its way to Level I Trauma Center Advocate Lutheran General Hospital.
No word available on the extent of the man’s injuries.
