DEA Arrests Three Schaumburg Police Officers in Dupage County with Armed Violence and Drug Charges

Federal DEA authorities arrested three Schaumburg Special Investigations Bureau police officers on multiple drug-related and/or felony charges today, Wednesday, January 16, 2013. The officers, identified late Wednesday/early Thursday morning were booked January 16, 2013. John Cichy, Matthew Hudak and Terrance O’Brien were booked at DuPage County jail.

According to sources familiar with the investigation, the three Schaumburg police officers were taken into custody in DuPage County today on drug-related offenses, as well as charges of armed violence possibly associated with armed robberies, as part of a long-running investigation by the U.S. Drug Enforcement Administration (DEA) and the DuPage County State’s Attorney’s office. The investigation involved an informant that wore a wire and a sting operation.

DEA agents were at the Schaumburg Police Department Headquarters with search warrants this afternoon. Police records were confiscated at Martin J. Conroy Center Police Headquarters at 1000 West Schaumburg Road.

The Schaumburg Police Department Special Investigations Bureau is often involved with confidential informants in investigations, as are many suburban and city police investigations bureaus. Some of those operations have placed Schaumburg police investigators in Arlington Heights on occasions without any assistance from Arlington Heights police officers.

Less than three years ago police departments from Arlington Heights, Des Plaines, Elk Grove Village, Mount Prospect, Rolling Meadows, and Schaumburg worked together with the DEA in Operation “Dial-a-Rock” in which the “kingpin” of a drug-selling organization, Hector Cortez, 40, was arrested in the 2800 block of Algonquin Road, Rolling Meadows; and the right-hand man for the organization, Adrian Peregrino-Garcia, was arrested in the 1700 block of Poplar Place in Schaumburg. As a result of Operation Dial-a-Rock, police seized 1,500 grams of crack and powder cocaine worth $150,000, twenty-one vehicles (some used for drug deliveries), and $50,000 cash.

Schaumburg Police reported Wednesday night that the Village of Schaumburg has launched an internal investigation into the actions of the police officers, and that the three Schaumburg Police officers have been placed on administrative leave pending the outcome of a criminal investigation being carried out by the DuPage County State’s Attorney’s Office.

  1. This is only 3 of many criminals in the legal system. The cops are the ones breaking laws on a daily basis and getting away with it. This needs stopped.
