The Black Lives Matter Boycott of Whole Foods Over BLM Masks and a Possible New Buycott Brewing at Whole Foods

Employees in some Whole Foods Market stores are being sent home for refusing to remove Black Lives Matter masks while working. Customers and employees could be seen boycotting side by side outside of the Cambridge Whole Foods in Massachusetts. “We’ve been told to take our mask off or leave without pay,” Whole Foods employee Savannah Kinver told WBZ-TV.

A Twitter account has been set up to provide updates to the ideologically-related demand that Whole Foods Market allow its employees and representatives to outwardly demonstrate the same solidarity with the “Black community” that the company itself claims to show in its media and marketing statements.

Some employees have been walking off the job for 18 days after being reprimanded for wearing their Black Lives Matter face masks, according to WBZ-TV.

According to WBZ-TV, the CBS affiliate in Boston, Whole Foods issued the following statement …

“In order to operate in a customer-focused environment, all Team Members must comply with our longstanding company dress code, which prohibits clothing with visible slogans, messages, logos or advertising that are not company-related. Team Members with face masks that do not comply with dress code are always offered new face masks. Team Members are unable to work until they comply with dress code.”

WBZ CBS Boston reporter Tiffany Chan reports that employee, Savannah Kinver said, “We wear gay pride pins. We wear Red Sox masks. We wear Bruins masks… we’re encouraged to!”

Employees told WBZ-TV that even though some employees are on the verge of being fired, they’ll keep walking out and speaking out until changes are made.

According to WBZ-TV, even normally loyal customers are changing their minds about Whole Foods – standing in solidarity with employees, and boycotting.

A new response to boycotting is buycotting — the movement that is counter-boycott or anti-boycott. Activists adverse to the activists that boycott Whole Foods or also Goya Foods may deliberately increase their shopping at Whole Foods or deliberately buy more Goya Foods products at any grocery store. Goya Foods experienced a boycott/buycott scenario when Goya Foods, Inc. CEO Robert Unanue complimented President Donald Trump at an event he was attending by invitation at the White House — the signing of an executive order for the Hispanic Prosperity Initiative. The Hispanic Prosperity Initiative is a commission assigned to improve “access by Hispanic Americans to educational and economic opportunities. Liberal activists were initially triggered that the Goya Foods CEO complimented President Donald J. Trump, and called for a boycott of Goya Foods. Counter-activists then called for a buycott of Goya Foods products designed to increase sales of Goya Foods products.

As of early Tuesday July 14, 2020 there were no Tweets trending to advocate a buycott at Whole Foods. Previous buycotts at Whole Foods have been called out to counter boycotts of Whole Food by protesters opposing the grocery chain for serving sandwiches to police and national guard in Baltimore during the civil unrest over the death of Freddie Gray while he was in police custody in Baltimore. Another Whole Foods buycott attempted to counter the effects of liberal activists calling for a boycott when Whole Foods CEO John Mackey compared Obamacare to ‘fascism’.

Ironically, an app known as the Buycott app reads the Universal Product Codes (UPC) barcode on a product, and suggests whether a consumer should buy or avoid a product based on how well it aligns with the consumer’s values and principles. The Buycott app and be used to ‘enforce’ activism to support or destroy a company’s sales. The Buycott app can help a consumer decide whether to boycott a product to hurt a company that is selling the product, or buycott a company to help support the company that is selling the product.
