Fire at Automotive Business on Gaylord St, Elk Grove

Elk Grove Village police and firefighter/paramedics responded about 12:15 PM Monday to a report of a building explosion and fire at Quality Auto Works, 105 Gaylord Street. Police in the area reported they saw a plume of smoke, and were heading toward the unknown site to investigate. About a minute later callers to 9-1-1 reported a possible building explosion. Police on the scene reported fire through the roof.

People at the building reported a possible gas explosion from the rear of the buiding.

One person at the business was transported to a local hospital with a hand injury.

Firefighters observing the roof reported significant damage with sagging involving about a three-foot drop.

Fire was reported extinguished at about 12:40 p.m.

Firefighters from Arlington Heights, Des Plaines and Itasca assisted Elk Grove Vilage firefighters.
