2 Hurt in Serious Crash at Oketo Avenue and Dempster Street at Morton Grove, Niles Border

Police and firefighter/paramedics from Morton Grove responded about 8:27 p.m. Wednesday, February 26, 2020 to a report of a serious crash with multiple injuries at Oketo Avenue and Dempster Street. Police first on the scene reported a vehicle into the building with one of the drivers fleeing the scene on foot.

Engine 2’s crew on arrival reported two vehicles with heavy damage, and one vehicle up against a building — initially unsure whether the vehicle was inside the building.

Police caught up with the driver at Crain Street and Oketo Avenue about two blocks south of the crash. Police requested an ambulance for an injured driver at Crain and Oketo.

Two patients from the crash were transported to Advocate Lutheran General Hospital in Park Ridge.

The building damaged is possibly at 7315 Dempster Street “Unimart One Stop Shop.”

Dempster Street eastbound lanes were backed up to Oriole Avenue by 8:45 p.m.

The crash was possibly in the jurisdiction of Niles.
