Zion police officers responded about 6:30 p.m. Wednesday, February 19, 2020 to reports of shots fired in the block of 2300 Joanna. While on scene, officers located 14 casings, but no did not located any wounded victims. Also, there were no reports of any property damage.
Another scene of shots fired was reported about 7:15 p.m. from the area of Horizon Village Apartments. As officers were responding, they were notified of a shooting victim in the block of 4100 Bayside Court. The male victim is a 17 year-old Zion resident. He suffered wounds to both of his legs that are initially believed to be non-life-threatening. He was treated and transported to a hospital by Zion firefighter/paramedics for further medical treatment.
Initial reports indicated the victim was walking toward the Horizon Village Apartments when he was struck. Officers located 10 casings from the scene.
The Zion Police Department are investigating the two shootings possibly as one case. However, initially Zion police have not confirmed whether the two shootings are related. The incidents remain under investigation. Anyone with information about one or both shootings is urged to contact the Zion Police Department at 847-872-8000.
