Man Dead, 3 Others Injured in Pit Bull Attack on Judith Drive, Plainfield — Dog Euthanized

Plainfield police responded about 9:00 p.m. Saturday February 8, 2020 to the block of 22900 Judith Drive in Plainfield to a report that multiple people were attacked by a pit bull.

Upon arrival at a two-story home, police discovered an aggressive male pit bull with injured people at the scene. Police were unable to gain complete control of the dog, and immediately euthanized the pit bull by gunshot on the scene.

Four victims were located inside the home, including a 25-year-old man with deep wounds to his arms from multiple dog bites. The man, suffering from severe blood loss, was transported to St. Joseph Hospital in Joliet. He was later transferred to Loyola University Medical Center in Maywood, where he was later pronounced dead. The victim’s identity was released as Devin White by the Cook County Medical Examiner’s Office. The man was wounded in Will County, but died in Cook County at Loyola University Medical Center.

Three other people also suffered multiple dog bites: A 52-year-old woman, a 25-year-old woman, and a 19-year-old man. All three were treated for injuries and released from the hospital, according to Plainfield Police Department.

All victims were transported to hospital(s) by multiple ambulances.

Police said the initial investigation shows the attack was unprovoked, but did not initially release information about who owned the dog or whether the dog had lived at the scene.

Plainfield Police also did not initially indicate whether there were any previous incidents with the dog reported to Plainfield Police Department or Will County Animal Control.

The Plainfield Police Department and Will County Animal Control are investigating.
