Winter Weather Advisory for Freezing Drizzle Especially Wednesday Morning 6:30AM – 9AM

Although a Winter Weather Advisory is in effect for freezing drizzle, the Arlington Heights area is only likely to see very light freezing drizzle around 6:30 a.m. to 9:00 a.m. Road surface temperature is below freezing. Temperatures from about midnight to 4:00 a.m. have ranged about 25-27°F. The worst conditions are forecast to be north of I-88/I-290 margin and away from Lake Michigan. Today’s high temperature of 35°F is forecast to occur from about 1:00 p.m. to 4:00 p.m. Gusty winds from the northwest about 23 MPH will pickup about 4:00 p.m. and last until 5:00 a.m. Thursday. Thursday clouds will clear, but the high temperature will only hit about 23°F from 1:00 p.m. to 3:00 p.m.

Today: Drizzle or freezing drizzle likely before 4pm, then a slight chance of drizzle between 4pm and 5pm. Patchy fog before noon. Otherwise, cloudy, with a high near 35. East wind 5 to 15 mph becoming west in the afternoon. Winds could gust as high as 20 mph.

Tonight: Cloudy, then gradually becoming partly cloudy, with a low around 16. West northwest wind around 15 mph, with gusts as high as 25 mph.

Thursday: Sunny, with a high near 23. Northwest wind 5 to 15 mph.

Thursday Night: Increasing clouds, with a low around 15. Northwest wind around 5 mph becoming calm in the evening. Winds could gust as high as 10 mph.

Friday: A 50 percent chance of snow, mainly after 3pm. Cloudy, with a high near 33. Southeast wind 5 to 10 mph, with gusts as high as 20 mph.

Friday Night: Rain, snow, and freezing rain before 3am, then rain, possibly mixed with snow between 3am and 4am, then rain after 4am. The snow could be heavy at times. Low around 31. Chance of precipitation is 100%.

Saturday: Rain before 1pm, then a chance of rain and snow between 1pm and 3pm, then a chance of snow after 3pm. High near 38. Breezy. Chance of precipitation is 80%.

* WHAT…Freezing drizzle expected. Total ice accumulations of a
light glaze to a few hundredths of an inch.

* WHERE…Outside of downtown Chicago with the longest duration
in the northwest suburbs.

* WHEN…From 8 AM this morning to noon CST today.

* IMPACTS…Very slippery sidewalks, roads and bridges are
possible. The hazardous conditions could impact the morning
commute.

* ADDITIONAL NOTES…Areas of fog are possible away from the lake
this morning and some of this may cause patchy slick spots as
well.

PRECAUTIONARY/PREPAREDNESS ACTIONS…
