Palatine police and firefighter/paramedics, along with Palatine Rural and Rolling Meadows firefighters responded at 9:38 a.m. Sunday, December 29, 2019 to a report of a fire in the block of 100 Brandon Court in Palatine. The first Palatine Fire Department crews arrived on the scene at 9:43 a.m. and were told by the resident that there was a fire in condominium unit H.

Fire department crews made access to the second floor and found smoke in the hallway. Upon entering the unit, fire crews found smoke and flames. The initial crews used a pressurized water extinguisher to quickly extinguish the main body of fire. An additional extinguisher and hoseline were used to extinguish the remaining embers and hot spots from the fire. A search was conducted and firefighters confirmed that everyone had already evacuated the structure.

The fire was declared under control at 10:16 a.m. Firefighters continued to perform salvage, overhaul, and investigative activities for some time after that.

No civilians or firefighters were injured in the fire which was contained to the condominium’s laundry room and hallway. Damage estimates and the cause of the fire are not available at the time of this release.

The emergency response brought twenty-six firefighters staffing four engines, one aerial device, three ambulances, and one rescue squad which responded to the scene along with three command officers and two fire investigators. Units from the Palatine Rural Fire Protection District and Rolling Meadows Fire Departments were among the initial responders to the scene as part of an automatic aid agreement. A paramedic crew with an ambulance from the Village of Barrington stood by in a Palatine Fire Station to assist with additional calls during this incident. Palatine Police officers assisted residents at the scene and provided traffic control.

The smoke detector alerted the resident to the fire in their home. The Palatine Fire Department reminds everyone that working smoke alarms save lives, and reminds citizens to make sure that their smoke alarms are tested monthly and are less than 10 years old.
