Jimmy Garoppolo Leads San Francisco 49ers to Victory in Close Struggle Over the Seattle Seahawks 26-21

Jimmy Garoppolo threw 18 for 22 completions and no interceptions, resulting in a gain of 285 yards. The 49ers had control of most of the game, but a late game advance by Russell Wilson threatened a loss for San Francisco. Several incomplete passes and a fantastic defensive stop by rookie linebacker Dre Greenlaw at the goal line stopped tight end Jacob Hollister in his tracks. Only 9 seconds remained on the clock with San Francisco taking control after the completed pass from Seahawks quarterback Russell Wilson was short of the goal line on a First-and-Goal play. Quarterback Jimmy Garoppolo pushed through the line of scrimmage, and the clock ran out in the 49ers’ favor.

The win resulted in the San Francisco 49ers earning the NFC West Championship, becoming the NFC’s Number 1 overall seed, and gaining home-field advantage throughout the playoffs. Seattle, with the NFC’s Number 5 seed, will travel to Philadelphia for a wild-card game on Sunday January 5, 2019 at 3:40 p.m. (broadcast on NBC).

With tonight’s win San Francisco claimed the first division crown since 2012.
