Cook County Medical Examiner Reports 5th Cold-Related Death of the Season in Cook County Occurred in Des Plaines

Des Plaines police at about 8:57 a.m. Friday November 29, 2019 called for firefighter/paramedics to respond to the block of 500 Florian Drive to a report of an unresponsive male. A 64 year-old man was pronounced dead at the scene on Florian Dorian Drive on the west side of Des Plaines.

According to the Cook County Medical Examiner’s Office, the Des Plaines death was Cook County’s fifth cold-related death of the season. An autopsy determined he died as a result of cold exposure with cardiovascular disease as a contributing factor. The man’s death was ruled an accident. The man was a resident of Des Plaines.

The four previous cold-related deaths have been reported in recent weeks.

A 56-year-old man died of cardiovascular disease with cold exposure as a contributing factor on November 11, 2019 in the Garfield Park neighborhood of Chicago.

A 70-year-old man died of died of cold exposure as a contributing factor of death in the Logan Square neighborhood of Chicago on October 27, 2019.

A 54-year-old man, died of cold exposure as a contributing factor of death on October 22, 2019 in Oak Forest.

A homeless man, unknown age, died of cold exposure in the Avondale neighborhood of Chicago on November 1, 2019. His death was the season’s first cold-related death, according to the medical examiner’s office.
