Charles A. Hightower, age 43 from Rockton, Illinois — located about seven miles north of Rockford — has been charged with attempted murder and aggravated battery after allegedly stabbing three people Thursday about 7:29 p.m. in a dead end street just south of Lippold Park in Crystal Lake.

Hightower was formerly employed as a physical education teacher at District 47’s Coventry Elementary School for the 2017-18 school year. Also, Charles A. Hightower resigned on August 22, 2018 from a part-time position in the fine arts department of North Elementary School.

Police and firefighter/paramedics from Crystal Lake responded about 7:29 p.m. Thursday October 24, 2019 to a report that multiple people were stabbed in the block of 100 Edgewood Avenue in Crystal Lake.

Police arrived to find two men with stab wounds to their abdomens and a third with “minor lacerations” to his arms, police said. Police secured the scene and firefighter/paramedics moved up to the scene where the victims were located. The men with abdominal wounds were transported to a nearby hospital. At least one of the victims was transferred to Level 1 Trauma Center Advocate Lutheran General Hospital by Flight for Life.

The third man with minor lacerations to his arms was treated and released at the scene.

The stabbing suspect, Charles A. Hightower, was at large for a short time, but was immediately located by police and taken into custody. According to Crystal Lake Police Department, the stabbing was apparently related to “a domestic situation.”

Police initially stated there was “no danger to the public.”
