Lake County Sheriff’s deputies and Greater Round Lake Fire Protection District firefighter/paramedics responded about 9:15 a.m. Friday October 11, 2019 to a report of a traffic crash in the area of Route 60 and Blackhawk Trail, in Fremont Township. Lake County Sheriff’s deputies arrived and discovered a 2014 Dodge Journey approximately 100 feet off the roadway in a cornfield, north of Route 60. The Dodge Journey had struck a tree before coming to rest.

The driver, who was the sole occupant of the vehicle, was pronounced deceased at the scene. No other vehicles were involved in the crash. The driver was identified as a 74-year-old man of Adairville, Kentucky.

Preliminary investigation indicates the driver was traveling westbound on Route 60. For an unknown reason his vehicle left the roadway, traveled through a cornfield north of the roadway, then struck a tree. The man was not wearing a seatbelt.

The Lake County Coroner’s Office responded to the scene and an autopsy was scheduled for Friday afternoon.

An ongoing crash investigation is being conducted by the Lake County Sheriff’s Office Technical Crash Investigations Team. The Speed Limit along westbound IL-60 is 55 MPH, according to Google Maps Street View.
