Two Apartment Residents Seriously Hurt in 3rd Floor Jumps from Apartment Fire in Schaumburg; 4 Other Residents and Firefighter Also Injured

Firefighters received an activated fire alarm signal that was immediately followed by a called in report by a resident that there was a fire in an apartment.

On Saturday, October 5, 2019 at 1:28 a.m., Schaumburg Police and Fire responded to the block of 100 Salado Court in response to a 911 call of a fire in an apartment, according to the Schaumburg Police Department. Upon arrival police officers observed flames and smoke coming from the first floor of the building and two people trapped on the third floor. Schaumburg police officers immediately began evacuating the building, according to the Schaumburg Police Department.

Schaumburg Fire Department activated a MABAS Fire and EMS Box Alarm, requesting firefighter/paramedics and equipment from several nearby municipalities.

The fire caused extensive damage, leaving one 12-unit building uninhabitable. A neighboring building was heavily damaged by smoke.

Six residents and a Schaumburg firefighter were injured in the fire.

Two third floor residents were trapped and subsequently jumped from a window. Both residents were transported to St. Alexius Medical Center, Hoffman Estates, and remain hospitalized with serious injuries.

One resident was transported to St. Alexius Medical Center, and was treated for smoke inhalation and released.

The Schaumburg firefighter was transported to St. Alexius Medical Center, treated for heat exhaustion, and released.

The remaining three residents were treated by paramedics on scene and refused transport to the hospital.

Approximately a dozen residents were displaced by the fire. These residents were provided immediate shelter in the Remington Place Clubhouse pending the arrival of the American Red Cross, according to Schaumburg Police Department.

The Village of Schaumburg police department and fire department are investigating the cause of the fire.
