Round Lake Park police and Greater Round Lake FPD firefighter/paramedics responded about 1:15 a.m. Sunday, September 29, 2019 to a report of shots fired with shooting victims at a house in the block of 500 Fairlawn Avenue.

Police determined the scene was secured and allowed firefighter/paramedics to the scene. One man was found dead and three other men were injured with gunshot wounds at a family gathering at the home.

Two of the men shot were transported to a nearby hospital where they were listed in critical condition. One other man was transported and hospitalized with a gunshot wound that was initially believed to be non-life-threatening.

Police did not initially release the identity of the male victim that was shot and killed. The Lake County Coroner’s Office will conduct an autopsy Monday, September 30, 2019.

Initially the shooter was not in custody and no description of the suspect or suspects was released. Police are investigating multiple leads. The Lake County Major Crime Task Force is assisting the Round Lake Park Police Department.

According to Round Lake Park Police Department, a family was hosting a party, but uninvited people arrived at the house, and were turned away. Round Lake Police Department investigators initially believe the shooting was targeted and not random.

A short time later, a male offender opened fire outside by the home’s driveway, then entered the home through a back entrance into a kitchen area. He then shot four men inside the house.

Round Lake Park Police Department did not recall any incidents at the address on Fairlawn Avenue prior to Sunday morning’s shootings. The home is located in a neighborhood less than 400 feet south of Bengson Park at the south beach of Round Lake. The home is also located less than 250 feet from the Round Lake Park Village.
