Man Shot on Hendee St Near Oak St South of Downtown Elgin

Elgin police and firefighter/paramedics responded about 7:41 p.m. Thursday September 12, 2019 to a report of gunshots heard in the block of 400 Hendee Street. Upon arrival police found a male victim. Elgin police said the victim appeared to be suffering from a non-life-threatening gunshot injury. Police determined the scene was secure, and firefighter/paramedics arrived at the scene of the victim.

Elgin firefighter/paramedics treated and transported the victim to an area hospital. Preliminary information suggests that — at the time of the shooting — the victim had an altercation with subjects known to him. The Elgin Police Department Special Investigations Division is investigating the incident.

Elgin Police urge anyone with information or with video that might assist the investigation to call 847-289-2700, or to send an anonymous text to 847411 and include ELGINPD in the beginning of the text.

No description of the suspects or any description of a possible vehicle associated with the shooting were initially released.
