Niles police and firefighter/paramedics responded about 9:04 PM Thursday September 12, 2019 to a report of a crash with entrapment and a vehicle fire at Milwaukee Ave and Ballard Rd Niles, Il. Firefighter/paramedics received a report that one person was removed from a vehicle before firefighter/paramedics arrived. Initially it was not confirmed whether this was a police rescue or a civilian rescue.
Niles Fire Battalion 2 on arrival reported two vehicles with heavy damage. Engine 2 pulled a hose line for the vehicle fire.
Eastbound Ballard Rd was backing up immediately. Then Milwaukee Avenue was backed up in both directions.
Niles police advised motorists to use Washington Street or Cumberland Avenue as an alternative to Milwaukee Avenue.
According to Google Maps traffic layer at 9:55 p.m. Thursday, traffic seemed to be moving with obstructions near the intersection.
