SHOOTOUT JUST WEST OF LAKE TERRAMERE

Arlington Heights police responded about 2:04 p.m. Saturday August 17, 2019 to a report of shots fired in the area of Creekside Park, 4100 North Schaefer Road, Arlington Heights. Upon arrival, a perimeter was established with the help of officers from the Buffalo Grove Police Department. No victims were immediately apparent by police officers investigating the scene, and no suspects were immediately located.

Arlington Heights Police K-9 units were also assigned to the scene, and conducted a search within the established perimeter. A short time later, two people were discovered attempting to leave the area through the perimeter and were subsequently identified as persons of interest to this investigation.

Witnesses reported seeing a male subject pursuing two other male subjects through the retention basin of the park when the two groups exchanged gunfire. Arlington Heights police believe between six and eight shots were fired before all parties fled the area. There were no reported injuries and it appears all shots missed their intended targets. Preliminary investigation suggests that the subjects knew each other and the shots were fired purposefully. Arlington Heights police stated that the incident does not appear to be a random act of violence toward the residents of the community.

Evidence was collected at the scene corroborating witness statements, to include a handgun, according to Arlington Heights Police Department. This investigation is ongoing and no charges are currently pending.

Arlington Heights Police Department stated that there is apparently no further danger to the community at this time.
