Farmers are generally an optimistic group, but record-setting spring rain cut planting season in northern Illinois and has led to growing pessimism. It`s not just about the money, and in some cases, it`s taking a mental toll as well.
Weeds are out-numbering corn plant in the summer of 2019 after planting was delayed for weeks because tractors couldn’t travel across the flooded soil.
Kankakee Farm Bureau Manager Chad Miller says the bureau has been doing a lot of education on the importance of mental health because farmers are struggling with extra challenged in 2019.
Much of the corn seed and soy seed has been returned this year.
Illinois Governor J.B. Pritzker is pushing for federal resources by seeking a statewide agricultural disaster declaration.
