Lake County Sheriff’s deputies and Beach Park firefighter/paramedics responded about 1:20 a.m. Saturday July 20, 2019 to the area of Sheridan Road and West Mawman Avenue to a report of a person hit by a vehicle.

Lake County Sheriff’s Deputies arrived and found a bicycle and the victim, a 63-year-old male of Waukegan, lying on the roadway with serious injuries. The male victim was transported via ambulance to Vista East Medical Center in Waukegan for treatment. The injured male bicyclist was admitted to the hospital, being treated for serious injuries that were initially believed to be non-life-threatening.

Preliminary investigation shows the man was riding the bicycle, and traveling northbound on Sheridan Road. As he was traveling northbound, he was struck by a northbound vehicle. The driver then fled from the scene. After being on the scene for approximately one hour an individual called from the block of 2600 of Gilboa Avenue, Zion, advising that their daughter, a 20-year-old female of Zion, struck a pedestrian on Sheridan Road.

Crash investigators responded to the driver’s home and located both the driver and the vehicle. The driver cooperated with crash investigators. The vehicle, a 2016 Chevrolet Passenger Car, was impounded while the investigation continues.

No criminal charges have been filed at this time pending the results of the investigation by the Lake County Sheriff’s Office Technical Crash Investigations Unit.
