Cook County prosecutors at 26th Street and California Avenue in Cook County court on Thursday June 27, 2019 announced the indictment of Deborah Martin on first-degree murder charges in the deaths of her parents, David Martin, 72, and Anne Martin, 71, in their Arlington Heights house on Derbyshire Lane south of Campbell Street, Saturday June 8, 2019 about 12:35 a.m.
Prosecutors say Arlington Heights police arrived to the locked house to find David Martin lying on the threshold of the front hallway and the living room. Anne Martin, who dialed the 911 call, was found lying in the kitchen. Both victims were stabbed multiple times and were already deceased, prosecutors said.
Police recovered a Smith & Wesson knife with a 6-inch blade from a bathroom. The sheath for the knife was found in a drawer in Deborah Martin’s bedroom. Police also found a receipt in the bedroom from a May 2019 purchase of a knife matching the knife found at the house, according to prosecutors.
A motive for the slayings has not been declared. A journal or diary belonging to Deborah Martin that included references to killing her parents was discovered at the home. David Martin was a Vietnam veteran and Motorola retiree. Anne Martin was a retired Wheeling High School and Prospect High School teacher.
Deborah Martin, age 43, remains held without bond at Cook County jail. Her next court appearance is scheduled July 15, 2019. Deborah Martin, 43, was initially ordered held without bond shortly after police arrived at the murder scene.
