When Cook County Forest Preserves police responded about 7:10 AM Saturday June 15, 2019 to a report of an armed robbery and beating in the Busse Woods Forest Preserve near 200 North Arlington Heights Road Elk Grove Village, they were initially led to believe that an elderly man was beaten and robbed on a bike path near the elk pen at the northwest corner of Arlington Heights Road and Higgins Road near Elk Grove Village.

Elk Grove Village firefighter/paramedics also responded to the report of the attack. Upon arrival, First Responders discovered the victim was an adult male in his 50s. The initial dispatch reported the victim was elderly, and first responders on scene discovered the victim was not elderly.

Elk Grove Village firefighter/paramedics transported the man in his 50s to a nearby hospital.

Witnesses and/or the victim reported the offenders fled into the woods after robbing the victim with a weapon implied. The crime occurred somewhere near Mile Post 4 on the bike/walk path.

The offenders were described as …

#1) a male/white with a red beard, wearing a black hooded sweatshirt;

and

#2) a male/black (clothing description not initially available).

WGN’s Patrick Elwood reported that Pamela Kowalczyk said she arrived at the forest preserve for a morning jog. She was going to take the jog with some friends when they discovered the male victim. She said two people were already helping the victim.

Now the Cook County Forest Preserves Police, who were investigating the incident, report that the attack was not a random attack. Cook County Forest Preserves Police say they have learned from the victim that he was targeted because of a personal matter. About two hours after the attack on Saturday June 15, 2019, the man was transported from the hospital back to the scene by forest preserve police. The police and the victim — a 55 year-old male/Hispanic resident who lives in Arlington Heights — walked north of the elk pen to an area near Mile Post 4 to investigate the attack.

Cook County Forest Preserves Police have ended the investigation, saying the attack was not a random attack and that they are confident the attack was an isolated incident.
