Friday morning June 21, 2019, Cardinal News shared an article from CNN that published that Facebook has reversed a ban it placed on a classic Led Zeppelin album cover that shows images of naked children climbing the Giant’s Causeway in Northern Ireland. Cardinal News didn’t select the picture; Facebook’s Open Graph markup code automatically selected or “scraped” the picture from the CNN article.
CNN reported that the cover of the British rock band’s 1973 album “Houses of the Holy” was posted to Facebook by the page Ultimate Classic Rock earlier this week, but was removed because Facebook said it violated its policies.

Facebook Users: Please help CARDINAL NEWS (and Free Speech, in general); share this article to as many people as possible to let them know how incompetently Facebook is operating to enforce their community standards. They could simply blur the picture, but instead resort to “punishment” … In addition CARDINAL NEWS didn’t select the picture to be shared. Thursday night, Ultimate Classic Rock (UCR), a rock fan site with more than a million followers on Facebook, told their followers the image had been restored (See the Ultimate Classic Rock post and comments). Dozens, maybe hundreds or thousands, of people that shared the Led Zeppelin image or even the CNN article about the reversal were suspended by Facebook.
However, when Cardinal News (Arlingtoncardinal.com) shared the CNN article about the image being restored on its own Facebook page (Facebook.com/ArlingtonCardinalNews) Friday morning, all Facebook pages from Cardinal News were blocked. Also Cardinal News administrators were alerted that Cardinal News is blocked from posting or commenting on any pages for 7 days.
Cardinal News has several categorized Facebook pages, and all were temporarily blocked from view Friday morning. In addition no new posts or shares are allowed for 7 days, according to a Facebook message. All commenting ability, including responding to comments on Cardinal News pages are also blocked. All messaging with readers using Facebook’s messaging feature have been blocked. All communication on Facebook groups administered by Cardinal News are also blocked.
CARDINAL NEWS plans to file a complaint with the Federal Trade Commission (FTC) and the Better Business Bureau (BBB) … and notify appropriate Senators and US Representatives about the wrongful action by Facebook.
