A 7-year-old girl hit while riding her bike Sunday is recovering, while police search for the driver of the vehicle that struck her and took off (CBS Chicago’s Mugo Odigwe report).

Kane County Sheriff’s police and St Charles police are looking for the hit-and-run-driver that left the scene in a black Dodge pickup truck after a crash with a girl on her bike near Illinois Street and Courier Avenue. The injured 7-year-old girl was airlifted by Superior AirMed1 medical helicopter and transported to Level I Trauma Center Advocate Lutheran General, which has a Pediatric Critical Care Center designation from the State of Illinois. The crash occurred about 1:00 p.m. Sunday, May 12, 2019.

Detectives have identified a person of interest as Brian Quartuccio, age 42, suspected of having a connection with the vehicle that was involved in the crash.

The crash happened around 1 p.m. Sunday in unincorporated St. Charles Township. The 7-year-old girl was riding her bike near the intersection of Geneva and Courier avenues when she was hit by a black Dodge pickup, according to the Kane County Sheriff’s Office.

The girl is recovering from multiple broken bones, which may require a hospital stay of a couple of weeks or several weeks, according to family.

The Kane County Sheriff’s office reported that the male driver left the scene of the crash, parking the black pickup truck at his home about 1.5 mile away before fleeing on foot.

Kane County Sheriff’s police and assisting police agencies searched for the suspect by air and ground. K-9 units were deployed a few miles away after one resident spotted the man in his neighbor’s backyard.

Quartuccio is described as a white male, about 5 ft. 6 in. tall, weighing around 120 pounds. The sheriff’s office said his long hair was pulled back into a pony tail and he was last seen wearing tan pants.

Citizens with information about Quartuccio’s whereabouts are urged to call 911 or Kane County Sheriff’s investigators at 630-232-6840.
