Girl, Age 7, Airlifted to Hospital After Being Struck By Hit-and-Run Pickup Truck in Kane County Near Illinois St and Courier Ave

A 7-year-old girl was airlifted to Level I Trauma Center Lutheran General Hospital with potentially life-threatening injuries after a man struck her in unincorporated St. Charles Township then fled the scene (CBS Chicago Jeremy Ross report).

Kane County Sheriff’s deputies and Fox River & Countryside Fire/Rescue firefighter/paramedics responded about 1:00 p.m. to a report of a female child hit by a vehicle at Illinois Street and Courier Avenue, and a driver that fled the scene in his vehicle.

A crew on arrival reported that a victim and a bike were in the middle of the roadway near Illinois Street and Courier Avenue.

Firefighter/paramedics requested a medical helicopter, and Superior AirMed1 was dispatched. The girl, age 7, was transported by AirMed1 to Level I Trauma Center Advocate Lutheran General Hospital, which has a Pediatric Critical Care Center designation from the State of Illinois. Lutheran General Hospital is located in Park Ridge.

CBS Chicago’s Jeremy Ross reported that the family reached out to CBS Chicago and stated that the female victim suffered broken bones and additional injuries and could be kept in the hospital day or weeks.

The offender’s vehicle is described as a black Dodge pickup. The driver allegedly drove about 1.5 mile away then abandoned his vehicle and ran from the vehicle.

The hit-and-run driver is described as a male/white 5’6″ 120 LBS with a pony tail, and wearing tan pants and an unknown shirt or jacket.

By 3:47 p.m. the Kane County Sheriff’s Office asked that citizens call 9-1-1 if they saw anyone hitch hiking in the area or running through yards.
