Head-on Crash Kills Zion Man, Injures Gurnee Man on West Bay Rd Near Lauderdale Ct, McHenry

McHenry County Sheriff’s deputies, Lakemoor police, and McHenry Township Fire and Rescue firefighter/paramedics responded about 12:09 a.m. Saturday May 11, 2019 to head-on crash involving two vehicles that occurred in the block of 300 West Bay Road near McHenry in McHenry Township.

McHenry Township Fire and Rescue arrived at the scene, and went to work to extricate a 23-year-old Zion man from his 2004 Nissan Sentra. The man was flown by Flight for Life to Level I Trauma Center Advocate Condell Medical Center in Libertyville, where he was pronounced dead.

According to the preliminary investigation by the McHenry County Sheriff’s Department, the Zion man was driving his 2004 Nissan Sentra eastbound on West Bay Road when he drove his vehicle across the center line into the westbound lane. His Nissan Sentra collided head-on with an oncoming 2017 Toyota Sienna driven by a 56-year-old Gurnee man.

The Gurnee man in the Toyota Sienna suffered minor injuries, and was transported and treated by a firefighter/paramedic rescue ambulance crew to Northwestern Medicine McHenry Hospital for additional evaluation and treatment of his injuries.

Airbags in both vehicles were deployed, but only the Gurnee man in the Toyota Sienna was wearing his seatbelt.

The crash is under investigation by the McHenry County Sheriff’s Major Crash Unit and the Lake County Coroner’s Office.
