Two Persons of Interest in Custody After Fleeing in Silver Jeep from Area of Shots Fired on Dewey Ave Near Simpson St, Evanston

Evanston police responded just after 3:30 p.m. Wednesday May 8, 2019 to a report of a shots fired in the block of 2100 Dewey Avenue. The suspects fled east in a silver Jeep Commander and ended up crashing into a fence at the northeast corner of Sherman Avenue and Lincoln Street in the block of 700 East Lincoln Street.

At 3:43 p.m. Evanston police alerted citizens to call police if they saw anything suspicious, such as individuals hiding or appearing to be avoiding police.

Evanston police described that the area is secure with two persons of interest in custody. Police also stated that they are not looking for any additional offenders at this time. Evanston police said that police officers and detectives would be in the area of Lincoln and Sherman continuing the investigation. The situation was secured shortly before 4:00 p.m. Wednesday. Evanston police did not initially confirm whether they caught suspects that fled the crash on foot or whether they were just looking for possible additional suspects as a precaution.

Evanston police also did not initially confirm whether a police officer or police officers witnessed the crash of the Jeep Commander or whether they were involved in a pursuit with the driver of the silver Jeep Commander.

Evidence markers were placed on the lawn near the Jeep Commander.

Orrington Elementary School, which is located about three blocks north of the crash scene, was locked down as a precaution. The lockdown was lifted by 4:00 p.m. Wednesday after the incident was secured.

The shots fired incident occurred in a nice neighborhood northwest of Northwestern University and southeast of Ryan Field and the Welsh-Ryan Arena.
