ALLEGED CRIMINAL SEXUAL ASSAULT ONE BLOCK FROM MOUNT PROSPECT POLICE STATION

Mount Prospect police responded about 9:55 a.m. Thursday May 2, 2019 to investigate a criminal sexual assault in the parking garage at 30 South Emerson Street. A driver for a ride-sharing company was accused of kidnapping and sexually assaulting his passenger in Elk Grove Village and Mount Prospect. The female victim was able to get away from Sowa in Mount Prospect, where she found someone who called 911 for her.

Alexander P. Sowa, 34, of Shady Tree Lane in Wheeling is accused of the criminal sexual assaulting of a female passenger while working as a ride-sharing driver for Lyft. He allegedly picked up a female passenger in Elk Grove Village, after she was out drinking on Wednesday night/early Thursday morning May 2, 2019, and drove her to another location in Elk Grove Village instead of the address she requested in Des Plaines, according to the Mount Prospect Police Department.

Sowa is accused of sexually assaulting the victim in Elk Grove Village, then departing Elk Grove Village with the victim, then driving her to a parking garage adjacent to the Mount Prospect village hall and library, and then sexually assaulting her again in Mount Prospect. The specific location of the criminal sexual assault in Elk Grove Village and the location where the victim was initially picked up by Sowa were not released.

Detectives from the Mount Prospect Police Department contacted the Elk Grove Village Police Department, and Elk Grove police officers were assigned to respond to Mount Prospect to take a statement from Sowa regarding the sexual assault that took place in Elk Grove Village.

Alexander P. Sowa was charged with one felony count of Criminal Sexual Assault by the Mount Prospect Police Department. The Elk Grove Village Police Department also charged Sowa with two criminal offenses from this incident.

Mount Prospect Detectives contacted Lyft about Sowa, who immediately terminated his employment. Sowa was transported to a Cook County Courthouse for a bond hearing on Saturday May, 4, 2019, where his bond was set at $10,000.00 “D”.

Sowa’s next court date is scheduled for Tuesday May 7, 2019, at the Cook County 3rd District Courthouse in Rolling Meadows at 1:30 PM.

Mount Prospect Police Department reminded the public that criminal charges are not evidence of guilt and that all defendants in a criminal case are presumed innocent unless and until proven guilty in a court of law.
