Jamie Poulos Killed in Crash on Stevenson Expressway After a Night Out Celebrating Her 23rd Birthday
Jamie Poulson was killed and three others were injured after a fiery crash on I-55 at Damen Avenue early Sunday morning.
Jamie Poulos, 23, of Berwyn, was killed in a rear-end Uber crash with fire on I-55 just west of Damen Avenue about 3:20 a.m. Sunday April 28, 2019, according to Illinois State Police.
Poulos was sitting in a rear passenger seat of the Uber car and was entrapped in the vehicle after it was hit and became involved with fire.
Officials said Poulos was pronounced dead on the scene.
Illinois State Police confirmed that an on-duty Uber vehicle with four occupants was struck from behind, causing a fire. Three of the four occupants were removed from the fully engulfed vehicle around 3:30 a.m.

A woman said her brother was in the crash on I-55 at Damen Avenue. She said he was in an Uber with two female friends when their Uber car was rear ended. Their car was severely impacted and burst into flames. Her brother got out of the damaged Uber car and ran back to try to save his friends and the driver. He was able to save the driver and one of his female friends. Jamie Poulos was trapped and died at the scene.
A 22-year-old passenger and a 23-year-old passenger were transported to the hospital and were listed in “stable condition.” The 47-year-old Uber driver was treated by Chicago Fire Department paramedics at the scene.
The driver of the other vehicle attempted to get flee on foot, but he was arrested by state police. A 24-year-old female passenger in his car was transport to a hospital, where she was listed in serious condition.
Patients were transported to Cook County Stroger Hospital and Mount Sinai.
Jamie Poulos graduated from Morton West High School, and worked at a Starbucks in La Grange. She was studying at Morton College, pursuing a career as a meteorologist or an astronomer. She was out Saturday night celebrating her 23rd birthday with friends before she was killed early Sunday morning.
