FBI JOINING INVESTIGATION OF MISSING 5-YEAR-OLD BOY IN CRYSTAL LAKE
The parents of 5-year-old Andrew “A.J.” Freund, reported missing in northwest suburban Crystal Lake on Thursday, told police they last saw their son at bedtime Wednesday night (CBS Chicago Mai Martinez reporting).
Andrew “AJ” Freund, age 5, was last seen at his home in the 0-99 block of Dole Avenue on April 17, according to the Crystal Lake Police Department. He has short, blonde hair and is approximately 3’5” 70 LBS. Andrew “AJ” Freund was last seen wearing a blue Mario sweatshirt and black sweatpants.
The FBI joined the investigation with specialized FBI units, including and Evidence Response Team, as law enforcement officers searched for missing Andrew “AJ” Freund. Crystal Lake police confirmed Thursday that additional resources from neighboring jurisdictions and federal agents arrived in the area to join the search.
A special call for a Side Scan Sonar Box Alarm, apparently for underwater search, was activated at 5:50 p.m. at 100 West Woodstock Street in Crystal Lake, which is the Municipal Complex in Crystal Lake. Just before 4:00 p.m. the Crystal Lake Police Department expanded the area they consider a crime scene, but did not initially release details about what prompted the expanded crime scene.
Crystal Lake Police said Andrew’s parents reported they last saw him at bedtime at approximately 9:00 p.m. on Wednesday April 17, 2019. His parents reported that after waking up Thursday morning they were unable to find Andrew. His parents called police and reported him missing. Andrew “AJ” Freund’s parents were taken to the Crystal Lake police station for questioning.
Crystal Lake police said they are still investigating the circumstances connected to the boy’s disappearance. An Amber Alert was not issued because authorities are unable to confirm an abduction had occurred.
Police urge anyone with information about the Andrew “AJ” Freund’s location to contact the Crystal Lake Police Department at 815-356-3620. Alternatively according to Crystal Lake police, anyone with a cell phone can send an anonymous tip to the Crystal Lake Police Department by texting the word CLPDTIP along with the tip information to 847411 (tip411).
