4 Injured, Including 2 Police Officers Trying to Rescuing Occupants at Palos Hills House Fire on 101st Street

Four people, including two police officers, were injured when a fast-moving fire raced through a Palos Hills home early Tuesday.

Palos Hills police and North Palos Fire District firefighter/paramedics responded about 2:00 a.m. Tuesday March 26, 2019 to a house fire on West 101st Street near 80th Avenue. Police on the scene were pushed back by smoke, but were able to help some residents from the house who escaped on their own.

Five family members were inside the home at the time of the fire. Three people were able to escape on their own, including a woman who escaped the fire by jumping out of a second-floor window. Two two family members were trapped inside by fire and smoke, and were rescued by firefighters. A man was rescued from the basement, and all were out of the house by 2:25 a.m.

Four people, including two police officers, were transported to the hospital. One of the police officers was transported to a hospital in a police car.

Initially, the fire is believed to have started in the basement of the house. The fire extended up all the way to the attic

A MABAS Division 21 Box Alarm for mutual aid assistance was activated at 2:09 a.m.

Auto-aid and extra alarm fire crews from Alsip, Bridgeview, Chicago Ridge, Evergreen Park, Oak Lawn and Palos assisted North Palos firefighters.

Crestwood, Hometown, Lemont, Orland, Tri-State crews stood by in fire stations nearby in case of additional calls.

A Special Call for two extra ambulances was requested at 2:14 a.m. — Evergreen Park and Burbank ambulances were assigned to respond to the scene.

The official cause of the fire is under investigation. The fire may have been caused by careless smoking.

Four people, including two Palos Hills police officers, were sent to the hospital after a fire broke out in a home in Palos Hills; two people were trapped in the fire.
