A 19-year-old woman hit and dragged by a car outside Rush University Medical Center on Tuesday is recovering from her injuries (CBS Chicago).
Chicago Firefighters and Medics firefighters, medics and police responded about 9:40 a.m. Tuesday February 5, 2019 to a report that a young woman was struck by a car and dragged under the car near Paulina Street and Harrison Street in the Medical District.
She was trapped under the vehicle — a 2006 Pontiac Grand Prix until firefighters used air bags to lift the vehicle with careful stabilization, and remove her from underneath the sedan. She was transported to a nearby hospital in the Medical District, where she was treated for multiple injuries, including treated a fractured hip and facial injuries.
Police investigated the incident and learned that the 19-year-old woman was crossing Harrison Street, outside Rush University Medical Center, when she was hit by a car turning left from northbound Paulina Street. The driver, a 54 year-old was given several citations, including hitting a pedestrian, failing to slow down and driving without insurance.
