Snowmobiler Killed in Crash with Tree Off Road Near Pagles Rd Near Harvard

McHenry County Sheriff’s deputies, Harvard FPD firefighter/paramedics and Illinois Conservation police responded about 1:05 a.m. Wednesday, January 23, 2019 to a report that a snowmobiler was involved in a serious crash with a tree in the block of 4400 Pagles Road, southwest of Harvard. The 9-1-1 caller reported the crash victim was unresponsive.

The snowmobiler was killed in the crash. Another snowmobiler at the scene led several paramedics to the scene of the crash, which was several hundred feet off the roadway.

McHenry County Coroner Anne Majewski identified the victim as 32-year-old Brandon Shields of Harvard, Illinois. An autopsy is scheduled for Thursday to determine cause of death.

There was heavy snowfall at the time of the crash and Shields was wearing a helmet, according to Majewski.

An MD-1 emergency response team was called, and worked with paramedics with Advanced Life Support treatment at the scene. Shields was pronounced dead at the scene at 2:19 a.m.

The crash is under investigation by the Illinois Conservation Police.
