United Boeing 737 Slides Off End of Runway 4R in Snowstorm at O’Hare, Chicago

Chicago police and firefighter/paramedics responded about 11:45 AM Saturday January 19, 2019 to a report of an aircraft that slid off 41.970770, -87.879014 (Runway 4R O’hare International Airport Chicago, Il). Police, airport personnel and firefighter/paramedics received a report that a United Airlines Boeing 737 slid off Runway 4R at the northeast end of the runway.

A Chicago Fire Deputy District Chief reported at 12:04 p.m. that there are no injuries, and that fire companies from Squad 7, Portable Stairway Unite 6-3-5 and Engine 10 helping passenger deplane. The aircraft is on the snow-covered grass at the airfield.

Chicago Fire Department report they transferred 123 passengers off of the aircraft and back at the terminal by 12:33 p.m. The six flight crew members remained on the aircraft where they were being debriefed after the incident.

The United Airlines flight was Flight #656 from Phoenix.

As of early Saturday afternoon, more than 900 flights were canceled at Chicago area airports.
