VIDEO shows male driver, who was charged with Aggravated Assault, when he approached another driver wielding a knife in a road rage incident on Milwaukee Avenue in Niles near the border with Chicago.
Niles police responded about 11:00 a.m. Wednesday January 16, 2019 to a report of a man with a knife in a road rage incident that ended in the block of 6600 Milwaukee Avenue.
A Niles police investigation discovered that the male victim, age 35 from Chicago, was traveling westbound on Touhy Avenue near Central Avenue in a 1998 Toyota Camry.
The suspect with the knife, Peter E. Dow, age 53, of the block of 3700 N. Saint Louis, Chicago, was in his 2000 Jeep SUV also traveling westbound on Touhy avenue near Central Avenue.
Dow alleged that the victim pulled in front of him suddenly and stopped. Dow changed lanes and he alleged the victim’s vehicle then pulled back in front of the Dow’s vehicle again. The drivers of both vehicles continued west on Touhy Avenue, until both vehicles were stopped at Lehigh for a train. Dow alleged that while both men drivers were stopped for the train, the other male exited his vehicle and threatened him, threw a cup of coffee at him, and then reentered his vehicle and continued to drive westbound. Dow followed the other driver and eventually cut in front of the other driver’s vehicle off in the block of 6600 Milwaukee Avenue.
A witness recorded cellphone video of the incident on Milwaukee Avenue after Dow cut the victim off and both drivers exited their vehicles with their vehicles stopped in the inside lane of 4-lane Milwaukee Avenue. The video shows Dow aggressively approach the victim with a knife in his right hand. The victim immediately re-entered his vehicle as Dow approached him and closed his car door with the window closed. Dow is visible on video striking the victim’s driver side window with the knife in hand. A few moments later the victim exits his vehicle and the both begin arguing.
Dow is then observed striking the victim in the face with his forehead. Dow was taken into custody and subsequently charged. The victim declined medical attention.
