McHenry County Sheriff’s police, Woodstock police, and Woodstock firefighter/paramedics responded about 3:32 a.m. Sunday December 16, 2018 to a report of a single-vehicle crash right after the train tracks on Lily Pond Road near McConnell. Police and firefighter/paramedics received a report that four people were unconscious and trapped in a smoking vehicle.

The McHenry County sheriff’s office reported sheriff’s office deputies responded at 3:32 a.m., a serious crash in the block of 3100 Lily Pond Road in unincorporated Woodstock. Police and firefighter/paramedics discovered that a Jeep Cherokee with four occupants left the roadway and crashed into a tree. Three of the people inside the vehicle were pronounced dead at the scene. One other person was seriously injured. The person was transported to an undisclosed hospital. All crash victims were identified as Woodstock residents.

An initial investigation revealed that a 1994 Jeep Cherokee, driven by a 20 year-old male driver, was northbound on Lily Pond when the driver lost control of the vehicle just north of the Metra train tracks and crashed into a tree. There are two sharp curves on Lily Pond Road north of the railroad tracks at the crash scene between Woodstock and Crystal Lake.

The McHenry County Sheriff’s Department reported that the 20-year-old driver of a Jeep Cherokee and two passengers, also in their early 20s, were pronounced dead at the scene. The other vehicle occupant was a 20-year-old male, who suffered life-threatening injuries.

Investigators discovered the Jeep was driven above the 45 mph speed limit at the time of the crash when conditions were foggy and the roads were slippery. Visibility from fog was down to 300 feet in the area, and slippery frost covered the road and shoulder in the area.

Initially, none of the identities of the victims were released.
