Arlington Heights police and firefighter/paramedics responded about 10:12 AM Thursday to an activated fire alarm followed by a phone in report of a smoke in a second floor unit at 4235 Bloomington Avenue. Palatine fire crews responding as part of an automatic respond to the address reported a fire in a two-story residential with a fire showing from a second floor unit. Palatine fire engine crews were immediately off the engine with a pre-connect line and putting water on the fire.

Buffalo Grove firefighters were next on the scene as part of an automatic response with a ladder tower to the roof.

Arlington Heights fire command upgraded the fire to a working fire response. Palatine crews quickly knocked the fire in the apartment unit and reported there was no extension. However, there was still significant smoke coming from the roof eaves, so a ladder truck crew from Arlington Heights Fire Department opened a wall on the roof near the center of the building. Firefighters inspected the attic through the opening they created and reported no fire in the attic.

No injuries were reported; apparently the resident of the unit was not home at the time of the fire.

Long Grove firefighters and Mount Prospect firefighters also assisted Arlington Heights firefighters. Some Arlington Heights crews were still working at an earlier fatal apartment fire that broke out about 3:50 a.m. Thursday.
