Lindenhurst police and Lake Villa firefighter/paramedics responded about 2:30 a.m. Tuesday October 16, 2018 to a report of a person shot during a robbery attempt in the block of 300 Teal Road in Lindenhurst.

Police arrived found a man dead in the single-family home and secured the scene. The dead man has been accused by a resident at the home as a robber that was shot shot during a robbery attempt. The initially the identity of the dead man was not released. An autopsy was scheduled for today, but result have not yet been released.

Police also discovered that another male resident was beaten. Initially police believe that the beating may have led to the shooting. One person was taken into custody, and a death investigation is underway. Investigators removed and secured evidence from the home, and police towed a vehicle that belonged to one of the alleged robbery suspects. It had been parked in the driveway, suggesting the men may have known each other. It may also explain why neighbors did not hear anything out of the ordinary at the time.

Police are investigating the possibility that the shooter was defending himself in his home. If the investigation finds that the shooter acted in self-defense in his home, there might not be any charges filed.

Sgt. Christopher Covelli of the Lake County Major Crimes Task Force said investigators don’t believe there is any risk to the public. The robbery is not believed to be a random act, and the shooter and the victim may have already known each other.

Residents in the home were renting the house.
