Warrenville Fire Protection District firefighters responded about 5:00 AM Saturday to a house fire at the intersection of Forestview Avenue and Curtis Avenue. Before police and firefighters arrived, three neighbors went to work when they saw a man trying to keep his head out the smoke as he tried to escape the burning single family residence. Lionel Martinez and two other neighbors pulled the man, 33-year-old Will Lowe, from the first floor window of the house while the victim’s clothes were on fire. Police arrived just after the citizen rescue.

Tthe fire fully engulfed the house soon after Lowe was rescued. Lowe was evaluated by paramedics and because of severe burns, the decision was made to airlift Lowe to the Burn Center at Loyola University Medical Center in Maywood.

Burns were reported to be third degree on 40 percent of his body.
