Power Outage, Power Surge Near Arlington Heights Road and Rand Road, Arlington Heights

Arlington Heights police and firefighter/paramedics responded about 11:29 AM Sunday September 16, 2018 to a report of arcing and smoke from a ComEd area near 400 West Rand Road Arlington Heights, IL. Police and firefighter/paramedics received a report that a person in Stonebridge Apartments saw spark and smoke coming from ComEd “grid area” near his building. The caller was apparently describing the ComEd Substation near Chestnut Avenue and Rand Road.

Several ComEd customer experienced a power surge or a momentary power loss as far south as Oakton Street and areas near Arlington Heights Road and Palatine.

An Automatic Fire Alarm also activated at The Annex of Arlington shopping center, 29 West Rand Road, just south of Rand Road and just west of Arlington Heights Road.

Engine 4’s crew on arrival did not see any arcing or smoke.

Initially there were no power outages reported on the ComEd outage map, but by 12:20 p.m. ComEd reported 280 customers without power.
