Update on Residential Burglary/Theft Involving Solicitor on South Walnut Avenue, Arlington Heights

#ad▼

Arlington Heights police received a report about 8:17 p.m. Tuesday of theft in the 1000 block of South Walnut Avenue. Police received a report that an offender entered an open attached garage, entered a black 2011 Audi A6 parked inside the garage, searched through a wallet in the car, and removed cash with some receipts. The resident witnessed the offender leaving the garage. When asked why he was there, the offender explained he was selling candy for a fundraiser. The resident had declined the sales pitch and thought the offender was leaving. When the resident looked back toward the garage, the offender was again leaving the garage. The juvenile was cooperative with the resident, and was described to police as a male/black wearing blue jeans and a white T-shirt.

Arlington Heights police responded and found the juvenile in the area. He was discovered to be a 14-year-old resident of Chicago, taken into custody, and charged with local ordinance violations — Theft and Criminal Trespass.

United Achievers Group did have a valid solicitor permit through the Village of Arlington Heights. The area representative turned over the remaining permits for the other workers and left the area.

  1. On that same evening, there was a white van driving all over my neighborhood from around 5ish and I saw it again at 7ish. At about 8:20 it literally stopped in front of my house and my living room curtains were open purposely so I could see if it came around in my area again. Low and behold, at around 8:20 it literally stopped in front of my house and I just stared at it through my window. I was so startled I yelled to my husband to go out there. I had seen it driving around earlier and I recalled the out of state plates, and it just did not seem right. At that time I called the Arlington Heights police and made a report. Needless to say, I did not see any patrol car come down my street, and I was out there going to each and every one my neighbors to tell them to close their garages. Did this so called group have a white van with stripes around the middle? And why does our village give these groups permits? I wonder if they go to village hall and ask for money, or approach said staff as they are getting in their cars in the evening? I have been approached in my garage by these children and literally they scared the living day light out of me. I have little kids and pay wayyyyyy too much in taxes to be afraid to answer my door, leave my garage open as we play in and outside, and be confronted unexpectedly by solicitors. Also, why are police not patrolling our neighborhoods? I have never seen a police car drive around for no reason. It should be done more often……we need to feel safe…..there is way too much crime going on lately in our area and I feel it is not being addressed!
