Animal-Assisted Therapy is a proven method of improving a patient’s physical health by providing a higher level of emotional comfort while serving as a diversion from their illness. Visit www.nch.org/animalassist to learn more about the Animal-Assisted Therapy program at Northwest Community Hospital in Arlington Heights.

The 2012 London Olympics will be the most social Olympics ever. Big network media and social gurus alike will leverage two-way communication and social sharing sites like Facebook, Twitter and Instagram to deliver updates and pictures on every nuance of the 2012 Games.

From medal counts and Olympic Village activities to inspirational athlete stories and their journeys to stardom, social media will be transformed into an all-access, front-row pass to the London Games. So by way of social media, the world will share moment-by-moment in the Olympic experience through the lens of reporters, Olympic officials and the athletes themselves.

In catching Olympic fever ourselves, Northwest Community Healthcare (NCH) has joined in on the conversation via Facebook and Twitter. The Arlington Heights based healthcare provider has “deployed” its own Olympic correspondent, Abby T. Dog, a beloved member of NCH’s Animal-Assisted Therapy program.

Abby will use her position as NCH’s Olympic Reporter on Assignment to update us on the Games, American victories, and medal counts, while also taking time to offer interesting tidbits related to health, wellness, fitness and nutrition – components of healthy lifestyles that need not be limited to the practices of world-renowned athletes.

As always, NCH strives to make its social newsfeeds as engaging and interactive as possible. Having Abby serve as Olympic Reporter on Assignment is sure to make an impact in the way NCH delivers relevant and meaningful health information to the community. Abby’s representation of NCH is right on point with how we want to be seen in the community: friendly, approachable, compassionate, not to mention knowledgeable and informed on current events, trends and health/wellness topics.

There’s no doubt the London Olympics will captivate everyone’s attention in the coming weeks. And, with the help of a four-legged companion named Abby, NCH hopes to offer Chicago area residents with a local perspective on the 2012 Games, the Olympic spirit and healthy living … by way of a little humor and social sideline reporting.
