A haboob is a type of intense duststorm carried on an atmospheric gravity current. Haboobs occur regularly in arid regions throughout the world, such as the Sahara desert, the Arabian Peninsula, Kuwait and parts of Iraq. In North America, they are common near Phoenix and Yuma, and are often created by the collapse of a thunderstorm.
