Gas Explosion Destroys House on Iroquois Avenue, Glendale, Wisconsin

May 26, 2012. Huge explosion in the neighborhood, Iroquois Ave in Glendale, WI. This is the resulting fire that totally destroyed the house and damaged the adjoining residences.

Four residents, two police officers, and a firefighter were injured about 6:15 p.m. Saturday when a house exploded in the 4800 block of Iroquois Avenue in Glendale, Wisconsin.

Two citizen rescuers were injured and two residents inside the home were injured. A passer-by and a neighbor were injured while helping the two residents with burn injuries out of their destroyed home. Two police officers were also suffered from smoke inhalation during the rescue. A firefighters also suffered heat exhaustion.

Screens and debris became projectiles from the exploding house. Several windows of neighboring homes were also broken.

The North Shore Fire Department contained the fire to the one destroyed home, and called for a three-alarm response to prevent extension of the fire and prevent further loss to neighboring homes. North Shore Fire Department serves the communities of Bayside, Brown Deer, Fox Point, Glendale, River Hills, Shorewood and Whitefish Bay — just north of Milwaukee.

Gas utility We Energies also responded to to the scene.

On May 29, 2012, North Shore Fire/Rescue and Glendale Police Department investigators notified residents that they were unable to determine a specific cause of the fire at the location of the destroyed home. While investigators were unable to determine a specific cause, they did not find any evidence that an intentional act or crime occurred at the scene that caused the incident.
