Bond has been denied for a Chicago man charged with aggravated battery and aggravated criminal sexual assault, Cook County Sheriff Thomas J. Dart announced today.

Robert Jack, 43, of the 1700 block of North Lorel Avenue in Chicago has been charged with one count of aggravated battery and one count of aggravated criminal sexual assault, both felonies, after he was positively identified in a line-up.

On April 20th, Cook County Sheriff’s Police were called to Elmhurst Hospital to document a criminal sexual assault. Sheriff’s Police arrived to meet with the victim who stated that she and Jack, also known as “Von,” had known each other for some time and she had taken a cab, provided by Jack, to meet him at the Regal Motel, located on Mannheim Road.

After she arrived, the victim stated that Jack began to make sexual advances towards her. When she refused, he began punching her in the face and then beat and sexually assaulted the victim for ‘a few hours.’ At some point during the assault, the victim lost consciousness.

Afterwards, Jack and the victim, who was suffering from multiple injuries, left the motel, where surveillance footage obtained by Cook County Sheriff’s Police shows the two individuals leaving together. They took the Mannheim bus south to Roosevelt where Jack then instructed the victim to get off of the bus and go to the hospital. After exiting the bus she asked someone to call 911, and she was transported to Elmhurst hospital, which is when Sheriff’s Police were contacted.

As they began their investigation, Sheriff’s Police realized that a previous violent sexual assault investigation with the exact same modus had occurred in 2009. At that time an offender had taken a victim to a Motel in Leyden Township where she was sexually assaulted and brutally beaten. The victim had positively identified Jack as the offender, but ultimately he was not charged with the crime.

On May 7, 2012, Robert Jack was placed in a line-up and was positively identified by the most recent victim. Felony charges were levied against him and this time they were approved. He was taken in to custody without incident.

Jack has an extensive criminal background with more than 40 arrests dating back to 1986, for everything from forgery, criminal trespass and DUI to possession of cannabis, disorderly conduct , and numerous battery charges.
He appeared in bond court on May 8th where bond was denied. His next court date is set for tomorrow, 9 am in Maywood.
