Fatal House Fire Kills 6 Children, 2 Adults in Charleston, West Virginia

A woman celebrating her 26th birthday and six children were among eight killed in a Charleston, WV house fire. It was the deadliest fire in more than 60 years in West Virginia’s capital city.

Charleston, West Virginia firefighters responded about 3:30 a.m. Saturday March 24, 2012 to a house fire at 2 Arlington Avenue that killed eight people, including six children.

The victims included Alisha Carter-Camp whose birthday was today; Jeremiah Camp, 3; Elijah Scott, 3; Keahna Camp, 8; Emanuel Jones, 18-months; and two other children whose full names were not available. The other adult killed was identified as Alex Seal.

Two other people were also transported to the hospital. Bryan Timothy Camp, 7, in critical condition, and Latasha Jones Isabell in unknown condition.

A cookout was held at the house and witnesses reported seeing candles at the house during the party. No official word yet on how the fire might have started. No working smoke detectors were found in the house, and no smoke detectors were installed in the house. One smoke detector that was not functioning was found in a cabinet.
