The Chicago Police Department has issued an alert regarding a crew of robbers who targeted a man who got into a fake ride-share vehicle in River North late last month.

Police said that on July 27, 2018 between 3:30 and 4:00 a.m., a man was leaving a bar in the block of 0-99 West Ontario Street near Clark Street when he apparently entered the fake ride-share car with two men and two women inside the car. The offenders robbed the victim, taking the man’s wallet and gold chain.

The crime scene is located at a bustling area near the newly re-modeled McDonald’s, Portillo’s, Hard Rock Cafe, and a Walgreens.

A Chicago police investigation discovered ATM video that captured one of the alleged female suspects committing the crime of unauthorized use of the victim’s bank card. She was seen using the victim’s ATM card at the Chase Bank in Crestwood and later at Walmart.

The suspects’ vehicle is described as possibly a 2003-2006 dark blue or black Jeep Liberty with an Illinois Temp Tag beginning with 225U.

There have been three similar crimes reported previously this summer. In three other cases, two women robbed people at gunpoint while pretending to be picking up ride-share passengers.

The robberies occurred in the block of …

0-99 West Hubbard Street on June 30, 2018,

600 North Franklin Street on July 22, 2018, and

0-99 West Hubbard on August 5, 2018.

Each of the robberies occurred in the early morning hours, police said.

Police said the female suspects in the three robberies are between 20 and 30 years old.
