On Tuesday January 10, 2012 at approximately 12:52 a.m., Naperville Police and Fire Departments responded to the area of 515 Chamberlain Avenue upon receipt of a 911 call for a report of a vehicle versus structure accident. Upon arrival, units located a 2008, orange Dodge Charger located off the roadway near 515 Chamberlain. The driver, who has been identified as Dean A. Suominen, 36 years of age, from 513 Ca Crest, Shorewood was trapped in the car. He was extricated by the Naperville Fire Department and transported to Edward Hospital.

Initial investigation indicates that Suominen, who was the sole occupant of the vehicle, was traveling eastbound Ogden Ave approaching Rickert Drive. The vehicle left the roadway and struck the traffic standard and curb on the southeast corner of the intersection, losing contact with the ground. The vehicle continued eastbound through the parkway, striking a driveway curb and losing contact with the ground a second time before it rolled over and struck a billboard post and fence. The vehicle came to rest in the yard of 515 Chamberlain. The vehicle’s engine dislodged from the vehicle during the crash and traveled into the parking lot of 515 Chamberlain along with a tire that struck a 2001 Audi that was parked in the lot. The Audi received damage to the passenger side door. No other injuries were reported.

An event recorder in the orange Dodge Charger showed data of 142 MPH just before the crash, according to police.

Presently, Suominen is charged with one count of driving under the influence of Alcohol and driving too fast for conditions.

Due to the nature of the crash, members of the Naperville Police Department’s Traffic Unit trained in accident reconstruction responded to the scene to investigate the accident. The accident remains under investigation at this time; however, it is clear that excessive speed and the consumption of alcohol contributed to the cause of the crash.

Anyone with information regarding the accident is asked to contact the Naperville Police Department’s Traffic Unit at 630-305-5285.
